Hindustan hamara!

Just watched Trump's ad aimed at Hindu Americans- almost choked on it....
Apparently he loves Hindus...and India....which means I'm an afterthought right?
India has been a secular country where divisiveness based on religion has never gained traction in a long time. But the recent change of power on the central level has caused issues one hoped would not have to be addressed, to come to the forefront, and when religion becomes the underlying fulcrum, all logic gets blown to the wind.
The only major threat to India's existence( I wouldn't call it major at all) would be Pakistan's unceasing thirst to undermine India at every turn. The unfairness of Partition was felt in both sides, but it is only one country that hasn't moved on. I know there is an inherent bias in my writing, but one has the acknowledge that spending a vast amount of a country's resources on trying to destabilize one country( at the cost of improving your own) isn't good policy at all.  Pakistan's animosity, while based on religious underpinnings,is beyond religion per se.Their  war against India is not Jihad...notice how the rest of the Islamic world does not get behind them in support. It is like brothers fighting over their inheritance.Yes, I used the word brothers in a sentence referring to Pakistan and India.

So in a country like India where there are far more reasons to be divisive than mere ethnicity or immigration status, we have managed to plod along without that idea taking over the country.
Of course minorities feel marginalised and of course the majority feels they are under threat from the minorities being pandered to. But the country hasn't( yet) cleaved along those lines  to the degree where the differences cannot be patched up.
But along comes the great divider and goes for the jugular....
I always jokingly say, America has been the great equalizer as regards Indians....pretty much every Indian here, is here by virtue of his or her capabilities and not because of their caste or community or the reservation system...
But of course you have people cleaving to each other based on where they are from...you have tamil sangams and telugu sangams...but in essence people have learnt to move beyond that divide...the next generation goes one better- since a vast majority of them don't even speak their parents' language anyway, that barrier is broken too.
But all if this is under threat, ironically ( or maybe, again) because a firangi has gotten in the middle.
I'm a minority in India but I have never felt marginalised or threatened there.
I'm a minority here but so far that hasn't been held against me ..but now, I don't seem to belong anywhere.. and now I feel the burn.I understand how people who feel they have been ignored too long, relegated to the fringes for too long feel. I understand their disillusionment with the powers that be .I understand the sway a snake oil salesman can hold over such a populace
But allowing yourself to be convinced by someone as shallow and callow and Trump does not actually show him up...it shows you up...how quick you are to fall for his fallacies..
What he had done to the USA is debilitating enough and now he is extending his tentacles into foreign lands and using the same rhetoric of divisiveness...please please people of India...don't fall for it...there are no Hindu Americans-...just Indian Americans, lets stay that way..and there are no Hindu Indians, just Indians ..India is my country, all Indians are my brothers and sisters. Still holds true doesn't it?
