Read an article about how the conservative religious factions think they are being victimized, while in reality they are just in the minority and therefore it seems to them like no one is paying attention and ergo, the sense of victimization.
I found that very enlightening. I agree with bakers refusing to bake cakes for same sex weddings ,really I do. Think about it-it is their loss, they lose money, but if sticking to their principles makes them feel better,so be it. Suing them for that I think is unfair.
But the world as a whole is moving forward-there always will be a few exceptions, but in general, we are moving forward regarding sexual preferences and such. That is a good thing. The article I read defined victimization as regards homosexuals-the torture, the discrimination, the abuse, the sheer ill feeling that compelled them to be closeted for years-that is victimization. But like I said, we have moved forward in our thinking and with it comes acceptance- importantly that it is not our choice to decide for someone else, and secondly, it is not our right to judge them for their choices. This sea change in attitude has been gradual, but steady and so the tables have turned. All the vitriol that the religious conservatives spewed about homosexuals being deviant and perverted was proved false. Once they became more open and public about themselves, it was obvious that there was nothing evil about them-they were just run of the mill people like you and me(I?)-except they preferred same sex relationships. That poked a huge hole in the theory that was being circulated until then. So the general population corrected itself on that viewpoint and moved on.The holier-than-thous, however were left behind, still stuck to their archaic and narrow minded perspective. And they look around, find themselves alone, with no one agreeing with them and decide they are being victimized.
The movie that is opening in a few days about heaven being real? There is that argument about what exactly the little boy saw.Did he see Jesus?Or more importantly, did he see Mary, the mother of Jesus is the question of the day.If he did ,then that would prove that the Catholics are right. So there is even mention of the fact that what he actually saw was suppressed to keep up with the Protestant line of
thinking.
The sheer fact that there is a heaven should be good enough news, that one doesn't nitpick the fact to death, right? But no!
Like I mentioned once before, mankind is the only species that has to have the carrot and stick approach to good behavior and only the threat of repercussions in the after life keeps us on the straight and narrow. Why?
The other day we were having a talk about the afterlife and my son went,"Oh,we will go to heaven or hell, but Hindus will be reincarnated!" There we go!!To each his own!
I think, when we die,it is going to be an Aha!moment for each of us. Like a gut punch and a hot flash all in one.Well that statement comes from me wanting equality between the genders- why should women have all the "fun"?
The afterlife is so open to interpretation, that anyone with half a brain can come up with a theory. And if organized religion comes up with an official theory, then that gains traction, and here you have half the world's population believing in one version and the other half scattered amongst the other
few official versions.
But this issue, unfortunately cannot be solved with conviction, because we are yet to have someone who passed, come back and give us irrefutable proof for the existence or non-existence of an afterlife. I have heard of enough number of dead relatives coming back in dreams and convincing people of their well being, but while they are at it, it doesn't seem like they describe their life after death.I dreamt of my ayah sitting in my house where she usually would, chewing on her betel leaf and lime concoction and insisting that she would always be there and she wasn't going anywhere. That to me is good enough
Where you end,or rather what state of mind you end up with after life does depend on how we live here I think. But, more in the sense of how we viewed life here and our general attitude to life.My version of an afterlife, hopefully includes a ton of books. And some pots and pans,a never ending source of exotic spices and fresh vegetables and meat and.......... See what I mean?
Until then,we are going to be arguing over something that we cannot even come back to earth and say,"I told you so!!"
So, I think everyone needs to simmer down, live their lives, and die and then figure out what will becomes of us-but to err on the side of caution, I think it would be a good idea if everyone decides to be good to each other, help the needy, be tolerant, compassionate, non judgemental and kind, because heaven forbid, if that is what counts for what becomes of us when we die, we will have our bases covered!!!
