Yesterday was a really busy day-well Saturday was really busy too,but with the kind of stuff you actually are loathe to do,but go ahead and do it for the well being of the kids-swimming,tutoring...

For some weird(read stupid) reason,I suggested using one car for a trip involving swimming classes and a trip to the farmers market, and we actually pulled it off, until I remembered that  the guy who was supposed to hang drapes in our living room was supposed to arrive at 10.30 a.m and there I was congratulating myself on having juggled the swim class and the farmers market trip pretty well!

It was a few minutes past 10.30 a.m and while I was tempted to go and pick my husband and kid up at the pool and then rush home,I remembered that we were NOT in India,so the man was most definitely going to be on time and that I had to go home and let him in.
So I rush home, and sure enough the guy is sitting in the truck twiddling his thumbs.I let him in,leave my older kid home with instructions to stay in the garage with the door open and not to go in the house with the door closed, because heaven forbid, the guy is not what he seems?
I tried calling my husband, who obviously had forgotten to take his cell phone with him,and who,now was probably twiddling his thumbs at the pool!
So,back to the pool to pick up the husband and kid and then finally back home.So the whole point of using the Prius for the trip backfired, because I did make two trips anyway!!The best laid plans.......

And,surprise!surprise!I come home to find my older kid sitting safe in the garage with the ipad blaring music into his headphoned ears, but my younger son's tutor sitting in her car, twiddling her thumbs!!
I had asked her to come home at 11.00 a.m and thanks to my crazy idea,we were late again!!

I know,I know,it was ALL my fault-like the Latin student keeps saying-mea culpa!(full disclosure:The latin idea was not mine,it was you know who's  and so you know who is teaching it!!).

I then get lunch ready and get people to have lunch and finally catch a break and turn on the TV-just in time to see Jacques Pepin make this incredible chicken Ballantine-a whole chicken deboned and then stuffed with a spinach filling and baked for an hour-looked divine. You can check it out yourself:

http://blogs.kqed.org/essentialpepin/tag/ballottine-of-chicken-with-spinach-filling/

And my husband who loves watching Pepin and thinks he is a culinary genius(I actually agree!),decides that maybe we should try making that at home. And guess who will try to debone a whole chicken?Moi!!
Not that I am a bad cook or anything, but a 3-4 lb chicken, whose skin needs to be kept intact because it needs to be wrapped around the thing once the filling is in,and whose leg muscles need to be scraped off the bone and articulations need to be found.......well-God have mercy on the chicken. While watching Pepin do the deboning is like watching poetry in motion,me trying to do the same would be a horror show and thank its lucky stars, the chicken is already dead!!
Oh,by the way,we are still talking about saturday and luckily it was afternoon by then and we decided to try it on Sunday.More on that later and yes,it was pretty successful-I have the pictures to prove it!
