Portland's bigwigs are discussing the plastic bag ban again.Very interesting.
During my trip to India this time,I noticed that if you did not bring your own bags and needed bags to hold your purchase, you paid 2.00 to 5.00 rupees and bought one-I forgot my grocery bags and had to buy them at 2.00 rupees apiece a few times at Nilgris in Pondicherry, and when I shopped at Westside( a clothing store) in Bangalore-it was 5.00 rupees for a bag-not the reusable kind mind you.
If that doesn't remind you to bring your shopping bags from home, nothing will!!
But to hear Portlanders go on and on about how they just can't do it-really people?I still remember this guy writing a letter to the Oregonian about how he needed those bags to pick up dog poo?
I am assuming we are far more progressive than a" developing" country like India. And ironically we contribute more to global pollution than many other countries.
So remembering to take grocery bags when you go shopping-priceless-literally!!!Or at least soon!!
