Is it possible for a woman to become a feminist?I was listening to OPB yesterday and they talked about a lady who became a feminist in college.
I think women are born feminist-not all of us become active with it.Every woman probably has an opinion about a woman's place in the world-but dig deeper and every woman will have a 'feminist' opinion about say, women's education,or pro life choices,or career choices or even political choices. While very few women might agree with the traditional viewpoint of barefoot and pregnant, most women are feminist by default. How active we are with our feminism is what varies. So,by virtue of our gender,we are feminists.
Consider the dressmaker of Khair Khana-she did what she did to provide for her family-I am sure she did not stop to think, about how she was actually bucking norms and in the process being feminist. She wanted to keep her family fed and clothed  and was willing to take risks to that effect-but in the process of doing that she actually changed the traditional view of what woman can or should do and activated her feminism.
I am a stay at home mom albeit one with a post graduate degree and some work experience. But I do have a feminist streak ,I should say.I was so happy to see Hillary Clinton in the primaries.I love how,in the US,women of all sizes can wear the same kind of clothes and walk around without being subjected to eve teasing(unlike back home),women drive buses(my older kid was surprised that there were no women bus drivers in India!),I am pro choice-I don't believe in anyone restricting/removing that choice from a woman-in short-I think I am a feminist-how active a feminist, is debatable!!
