Back to France.
We went to Chartres the next day.Rick Steves inspired us,as did my BIL who had been to France before and was all praise about the church-again stained glass windows!!
I've heard said,I mean read somewhere that the term Chartres blue for a shade of the color  came from the place where the Cathedral is located.
We took a train out of Gare Montparnasse ,it was a quick journey and we were there in an hour I think.

A short walk from the train station, and there it was.Note the mismatched steeples.(I'll leave the history of the church to wikipidia!)
Walking to church.

The mismatched steeples.
The speciality as usual was the stained glass windows. But I was also impressed by a maze on the floor in the middle of the church -we couldn't photograph it because there were too many people praying and walking the maze-kind of representing all our travails on earth, finally reaching the divine.Made Noe walk the maze with me -the only one in the family cooperating with me right now!!
Stained glass window.

Nothing like Subway cookies eh?

As usual, the kids dined at Subway!Doesn't it look like they were sitting in the middle of the road? That is the town square-no vehicular traffic,so we were good there. There was even a carousel.

The following picture was clicked because, you can go to any corner of the earth and find an Indian restaurant-right?Here's the proof!!
The Sardarji at Chartres

We were waiting at the train station at Chartres and Emmy clicked this picture.Plane crazy(wrong spelling?!!),train crazy, car crazy boy!!

The day or rather, the night before was one of revelry and noise-there were makeshift stages set up everywhere and we could hear music playing all night long-it seemed the Parisians slept unusually late that day,or not at all.Considering the fact that cafes did not close until after midnight,we were curious as to why the merrymaking went on all night.Turned out,it was the summer solstice!Longest day of the year, why not take things a step further and pretend that the day was 24 hours long?!Apparently this was an annual event-makes you wonder how the bleary eyed people performed at work the next day.
