I'm back!!
When you came back home after a long stay in India you don't just have to adjust your clock, but your mindset too.
Especially when it comes to driving!!Once you have seen people drive back home, you appreciate the fact that you don't have to drive there at all-you can manage with autos and taxis and of course FastTrack.
People who have moved from the US to India tend to fight the urge to indianise their driving for as long as possible.Being a courteous driver does not pay off in India-people honk at you and worse, curse you and in general make you feel like a clueless lout who shouldn't be behind the wheel anyway. So you finally throw in the towel and go,if you can't civilize them, join them.
I know someone who moved from here, got a license there and become a truly Indian driver-she honks constantly ,makes rude gestures, squeaks by vehicles waiting for a light, and in general-gets to where she needs to without a hitch.
So you sit there in the backseat thanking the Gods of driving that you don't have to drive in India. You really start appreciating the systematic traffic rules in America, and go,"I will never, ever, get angry at slow drivers or honk,or even glower at people in my rearview mirror again".
All this determination lasts for a........ week?
Today ,I found myself muttering under my breath about slowpokes on the road, people speeding up to merge on a really short merging lane.......and decided glumly-I am back!!Mind and body!!!
