OK...so that is the name of a restaurant near here and I for one don't want to eat there coz the image it conjured is, well not very appetizing ..
But my beef today is not with the restaurant ...or its name but this:
https://www.yahoo.com/style/parent-calls-the-cops-on-teen-boys-showing-support-180832106.html
A high school girl decided to go braless to school and when the school authorities intervened..she received support from...surprise! surprise! - boys in school who showed solidarity by wearing bras outside their t- shirts... So the ones who need bras won't wear them and the ones who don't, will..ah, the contrariness of teenagers!!!
My school friends found this to be a tempest in a teacup...and while I agree with them ..I have to say this: feminity does not mean insisting on doing whatever you want and daring others to react and then accusing them of misogyny....feminity is having the sense to be sensible and know your limits. The girls reaction is that she was being natural ... so a pervert's natural reaction might be to pursue her with evil intentions. Tit ( pun intended!) for tat huh?
The reason I'm riled about this girl is because I have been at the receiving end of enough vulgar, crude, tasteless comments and snide remarks about my bosom when I lived in India...I am, ahem, well endowed and wouldn't dare dress provocatively coz, I lived in a country that was far more conservative 30 years ago than now and my upbringing was such that the possibility was virtually nil...and I went to an engineering college where we had to wear a traditional saree where the pallu went over your chest in gentle pleats and so you weren't exactly flaunting anything.
So apart from my natural form being such, I don't remember encouraging said horrible reactions in any way and to this day I remember and feel the burn that those comments elicited from me.
Human beings might have become civilised over the aeons but certain responses and reactions still remain primeval.... and if after aeons of civilization a teenager wants to get a rise( again, pun intended) out of someone, then are we as civilised as we claim to be?
The whole au naturel movement needs to consider the functicoming of the human body and decide how far they want to go...after all defecation is a natural thing right? Why hide it away?
And why oh why does everyone think they can draw a line for where they want to stop and then expect the rest of the world to respect the line they drew? Because we are civilised ? Oh, bunkum !
