My son participated in a Lego Robotics tournament yesterday.Their team is a rookie one and virtually no one on the team, parents and children, have ever done a tournament, let alone be on a team.
Yesterday they did not win any big awards or advance to the next level, but they received a mention as the most promising rising star team in the tournament.Enough to make them want to try again next year I hope!!
I know the parents worked like crazy-no, they did not do everything-but they guided the children amazingly well.I know this because my husband was one of the coaches and he worked really hard-two of the three coaches were Intel engineers-which does not mean much in Hillsboro,Oregon, but still....
So all the hard work was worth it.All the Saturday afternoons when we could have just vegetated on the sofa, the scouting events Emmy missed, the winding down from work Vincent badly needed, all the money I spent shopping because Noe did not want to stay home without his Dad and Anna-worth it.
Unlike everyone getting a certificate for participation, this award makes sense because their robot design was noticeably good for a novice team-which is the whole point I suppose.
Here's to a messed up fall 2013!!
