Well, all of France is fascinating,so I am going into more detail about the people.
My husband is not going to like this, but it is the crux of the story,so I can't gloss over it.
We rented an automatic car and that was what we used to visit both Chenonceau and Villandry and finally using the GPS in the car,we hit Azay le rideau-literally hit, because in our zeal to find the hotel we had booked for the night,we (ahem,I wasn't driving the car),accidentally struck a side barrier and got a flat.We managed to park the car in a parking spot ,walk to our hotel and check-in.
My husband then asked the owner of the place if he could help us find someone who could help us fix the flat or atleast replace the tyre.He was so helpful,he phoned the local tyre guy, called him over, gave the keys to the car to him,had him replace the tyre and park the car in an overnight parking lot and return the keys to him, which,he returned to us.Our offer to pay the guy was brushed aside with,"That was nothing!!Just a flat!!We are glad to help!"

So to the owners of Hotel Biencourt-Merci beaucoup Madame et Monsieur!!
And to the lady at the florist nearby where I bought a plant to give them-when well intentioned people meet-words are so unnecessary-she perfectly understood what I wanted, and helped me out immensely.

Again, language is no barrier when it comes to food. No,the menu card did not have pictures,it was not in English, but we could make out what the plat du jour was-cochon au lait.My husband and I picked that and then proceeded to order wine-albeit in English-but we wanted a sweet wine and did not know the word for sweet-so we took a roundabout route and told the waiter,we needed,"vin, mais, non sec?"-(assuming sec meant dry and hence the "non")we succeeded!!I wondered if sec and sere had the same pronunciation but with the r being mangled in French anyway,it came out sounding the same.
The kids had a margarita pizza and viola!Dinner was done!!
BUt we weren't done with chateaux yet-the big one was waiting for us-Versailles!!
