Today my brother would have been 44. But we have only photographs to adorn with flowers and memories to share. We cannot create new ones. I had a ton of friends and relatives celebrate birthdays during the Coronavirus and we teased almost all of them about how memorable this birthday would be for them. Not for Dinni. He isn't around to experience it.
I have offered a mass to be said for him today at church and also gotten all four of us into the mass for today.Considering the fact that only 25 people are allowed at mass, I made sure the four of us registered early enough and got through.
Beyond that, what?
I was talking with Vincent about how, if we had known earlier that he would leave us too soon, we could have spent more time with him and would have had more memories to look back on.Almost like compressing a life's worth into a shorter period of time. But the prescience is given to no one and therein lies the rub. Do we really need to know the clock is ticking to actually savor and cherish someone or something? How about we do it anyway?
