Sparkly clean!!

Saw an ad for Dettol dishwashing solution and was taken aback-horizontal integration!!
Recently someone told me about someone they knew who was a clean freak who wouldn't hesitate to use Dettol to clean fish just to get the stink out of it!!
Dettol has its own nostalgic value for me and not a very positive one at that!!Pretty much all doctor's offices back home have that stench (I know it is supposed to smell"clean",but it was a stench nonetheless!) and I automatically associate that smell with a trip to the doctor's office and if your doctor was an "injection"aficionado like mine was,woe unto you-every faint whiff of Dettol and you want to take off in the other direction!
To cap it off,every house always had a bottle handy-every nick and cut and broken toe nail was anointed in Dettol-and the sting!!You would settle for the pain of an accidental cut to the prickly,zingy,burn of Dettol on an open wound.Almost like dropping a whole bunch of tiny pushpins over the open wound.
Dettol was considered a good substitute for aftershave so in most households there was no escape-you had a resident bottle of Dettol and it was like having an  horrible older brother whom you hated but your parents adored and boasted about at every opportunity!
Once I got to the US,being miles away from dettol was a happy feeling!!
And then I had my son-that tamil loving crazy kid of mine who watches Sun TV(who by the way,has already watched Thalaiva-not yet released back home-in a theatre nonetheless!) and asks for everything they advertise on that channel-which included ,wait for it, Dettol soap-which hand't been around when I escaped the scourge of  the stinging solution.He has really sweet grandparents who indulge his every whim(they bought him Sensodyne toothpaste all the way from India inspite of me letting them know we get it here in the US-because he asked for it!).So he got himself a few cakes of the soap-and no surprise but they have different"fragrances"!!One obviously, is the "original" and then there were a few more options.Luckily he settled for something other than the original.So I can reside in my residence-which is almost in place,what with some confusion about what piece of furniture goes where-without wanting to run away everytime he has a bath!!
