A few good men

Is it possible to make out who is good and who is bad?If one had the talent for differentiating between good and bad people-would you not want that person by your side?Imagine-you need a good friend?Bring this guy in, march in all the short listed people, and he will pick the "good" person for you.Looking to marry?Bring the guy in!!Need a house sitter? You know what to do!
And if all of us had that capability? The world would be such a great place to live in.All the bad people can be corralled into internment camps/ghettoes and  kept out of trouble.
I come to understand that there is an organisation that has not one, but many individuals possessing such a invaluable talent, and I am hoping they will be willing to share their treasure-I am thinking, national treasure with the rest of the nation.
First off, however,I need some clarifications-are there different differentiators for different character traits?Like, you need an 'Honest' Abe-do you use one sorter, and if you need someone with no immoral proclivities-do you use another?Do these two super persons agree with each other's decisions regarding who is honest and who has moral rectitude?I, for one personally, cannot agree on how cold the day is with my sweet, patient better half, any given day.So the idea of what defines good in general, and also in specific depends on the person who has to decide isn't it?
I have a bunch of friends who meet weekly and chat and generally have a good time -we, however, have mini groups in there. The smaller groups are made up of people whose tastes and preferences run pretty close together.
People have their preferences and definitions of what constitutes good,bad,likeablity,dislike.......So very few people probably really agree on who is good or who is bad unless the person in question is Hitler-but wait, even in that case I am sure a few Neo-Nazis would beg to disagree?!
My next question is, since artifice is not very difficult to cultivate, how do you know a "good" person is really good?Even small children learn how to be endearing when they want something from you, and then throw a tantrum when things don't go their way.
If a person needs something,I am sure he or she will contort him/herself into any difficult position, just to get what is needed. How difficult can "acting" good be?Consider all the pedophiles in the Catholic church-as evil as they were, they had a"good" face too-so much so that in some situations, the veracity of the claims against them was in question. This month's Smithsonian has something about how good/bad works.Haven't read it yet, but I am really curious to see what it says.Anyway, my point is, can a person make everyone believe he is good when in reality he is not so very good?Or maybe even downright evil?
Which brings me back to the whole bunch of 'smart' people the NRA(well, you knew where this was going, right?)seems to be willing to send forth into the world to pick all the good people they say , should be armed and let loose in schools,so they can protect our children. One would think after such a massacre, tighter gun control would be considered, but the NRA being the flagship organisation touting the benefits of owning guns, wants MORE guns, not less, with the additional caveat that GOOD people need to be armed-are they saying right now BAD people have guns too-willing to concede that?
Another line of argument was that since there are too many guns in circulation already, tighter gun control is not practically possible-Really?Set a limit on gun ownership and have people voluntarily return the excess number-Nancy Lanza had five guns-I am assuming she had just two hands.I, for one, cannot use a staple gun with one hand, as I found out last week!! Make the background check so thorough, that people would rather let their past stay where it is and not have it mucked about, all to own a gun.Make the waiting period long enough that they run out of patience.Have oppressively high license renewal fees and such and a few thousand more will drop off-I am not an expert and I am sure there are a thousand faults in my suggestions, but I do not understand the theory of  how more guns will lessen the occurrence of gun violence.Especially if you are stupid enough to suggest that "good" people need to be armed. That just goes to show how delusional the NRA is!Ann Coulter too-but that is a foregone conclusion!
