Jars and sand and stone

Last week's homily in church caught my attention because it had a story in it-something all of us have heard at some point I am sure.
It talks about a jar being filled with huge stones and people being asked if there was space for more stuff in it,and then pebbles being put into the jar and how they fill the crevices between the stones, and still more space being filled with sand and then, water being added to the jar-the idea is how there is always something that can added to/or there is space that can be made for things-it is more of a time management thing.
But what caught my attention was how the priest explained that the order was critical-how you cannot put the pebbles in first and then try to stuff in the stones,or add the water first and then add pebbles....
If we take the time to prioritize-not just activities, but everything-our time, our values, our relationships,it might might make us better people and make a difference in how we look at the world and everybody in it.
How often do we hang on to trivialities and waste our precious time on them while more valuable things pass us by and we lose our chance to make use of them or enjoy them?
Childhood passes quickly and we will only have memories left after a while.I know,I know we do have videos of everything our kids ever do to watch and rewatch ,but nothing beats being there.
How often we have nitpicked the hell out of something our loved ones do without stepping back and looking at the bigger picture?
Food for thought!!!
