Christianity is not famed for its tolerance of other religions-just like many monotheistic religions-no surprise there!
But Paul Ryan took the cake today. Judeo-Christian values-where is the separation of church and state? What does this country stand for?
I am from India and for the last 15 years I have lived in a country where Christianity is the religion of the majority.I have had Indian friends complain that Catholic private schools here were evangelizing-when all that was expected was for their kids to pray like everybody else and maybe attend mass once a week with the rest of the class! And I used to think, for people who were used to being in the majority back home,it seems like a bitter pill to swallow when they cannot dictate terms to the what they presume incorrectly ,the minority.
India is the largest democracy in the world, and religion plays a major part in peoples lives, but the whole hinduvta thing went only so far.People do not fall for the religious clap trap of extreme fundamentalists who, having nothing good to show for themselves, use scare tactics and call the opponent the enemy and imply all kinds of things about them-including their faith.Kind of sounds like Paul Ryan right?Shame!!And a catholic to boot!!
And the creepy crawlies that comment-you would think the President is this evil, closet terrorist who will destroy this country single-handedly!Makes you wonder what the IQ of these people would be.
Westerners/Europeans have always mistaken their military might for some reason to be intellectual and even biological superiority(this was as regards Africa as mentioned in Sven Lindqvist's 'Exterminate All the Brutes").I came across this quote in the book "Drink the Bitter Root" by Gary Geddes. One could also add the "my God is better than yours and he makes me win over you" sentiment which again is mistaking military superiority to mean divine rights.Wrong path to take I think!!
My 12 year old son mentioned an acquaintance also around 12,who claimed that Obama was a "baby killer" -sowing the seeds of intolerance pretty early huh?!
This is the 4th election I am witnessing in the US and none of them have been this vitriolic, this vicious and this polarizing.Funnily the polarizing has nothing to do with the president's performance-which anyone with half a brian would know cannot really be judged in four short years(again, makes you wonder what their IQ would be),but that aside,it is his color, his faith, his ancestry, the sheer richness of his cultural experience that is doing the polarizing. It is very difficult to actually come across a person in power who actually can empathise with another country, another culture and another faith-but no,that is being twisted into something evil.
The world is no longer divided along national or international lines-it is truly becoming a global village and to be the bully will soon be considered along the same lines as being the village idiot. So,learning to curb the "I am better than you because my God says so" attitude might come in handy and guess who is already doing that? And who is not?
I had vowed never to write politics on the blog, but today I was compelled to do it.Not for someone to read and comment about, but to get some thing off my chest-something which is unfair, unjust and most importantly, unchristian!!Or should I say UNJUDEO-CHRISTIAN!!
